Feng Shui Garden Ponds

on Friday, 06 April 2012. Posted in BSA Feng Shui

Ponds generate a peaceful energy.

Water is of great importance in feng shui and symbolizes the accumulation of qi, which is synonymous with wealth. Since the weather is really starting to move towards the yang side or become warmer, this is the perfect time to think about adding a pond to your yard.

Water in the Garden

One of the first things to keep in mind when constructing a garden pond is the size in relation to the size of the home and its proximity to the home. Bigger is not necessarily better. Everything in the garden should blend in with the existing landscape features. Try to incorporate natural materials and use curving designs, as these dynamics are in alignment with nature. Make sure there are rocks or ledges that small animals can navigate so they do not get stuck in the pond and drown.

Shape:
The ideal shape for a pond is irregular as this will imitate a natural pond. The more irregular the shape the more plants and wildlife will thrive in and around it. A pond that is round tends to move the energy too quickly and those that are square tend to shoot energy off the edges. Albeit regular shaped ponds are easier to install, just make sure you soften the structure with more plants around the edges.

Rockeries:
To balance the yin component of the still pond you can add the yang energy of rocks. This combination reflects the mountain and lake formations so important in the study of feng shui. Here are a few basic tips on choosing rockery.
1. Use an odd number of stones.
2. Bury the stones at least 1/3rd into the soil.
3. Place stones according to their graining.
4. Use a flat stone next to an upright one.
5. Choose the most weathered part of the stone to face forward.
6. Keep in mind that rockeries should mirror the natural world.

Water Flow:
There are many theories in feng shui on how water should flow and these can be found in the Water Dragon Classics. The major, common-sense rule for water placement is that is should not flow quickly towards you from a point higher than your house because of flooding concerns. It is deemed auspicious when water trickles towards the home, as this symbolizes wealth rolling in. Trickling water in through the east or in towards personal beneficial directions is also deemed auspicious. In this current period 8 cycle (2004 -2024) it is also auspicious to have water trickling in from the southwest, as this symbolizes  future prosperity.

Have fun and be creative when it comes to putting a pond on your property. You will come to really enjoy the energy it brings into your life.

Simple Feng Shui Tips For Staying Positive

on Tuesday, 27 March 2012. Posted in BSA Feng Shui

  Feel Good Colors

These days it is easy to feel overwhelmed and depressed. One of the best ways to improve mood is to make some changes in your space. Bright colors such as green, red and purple radiate positive energy so choose bed linens, curtains, frames and other decorative objects in these colors to surround yourself in more of this energy. Bright green will be most effective in the east, southeast and south of your home, whereas reddish purple will work best in the south, southwest and northeast areas.

Placing a water feature in the east of your home will increase the energetic qi here while boosting confidence. It is an energy all about making things happen in life. Spend time in this direction in your home as well as the southeast and south portents. These directions are very yang and help to balance the overly yin aspect of depression.

Incorporating more yang foods into your diet will also be effective by eating more grains and hot vegetables, and less cold meals and sugary foods. Keep rooms clutter-free,well ventilated with a natural light source to also wake up stagnant energy.

Once you are feeling more energetic think about starting an exercise routine. This is a perfect time of the year to power walk or run. If you are looking for something a bit more low key try a gentle yoga class or perhaps a Zumba class to add a little spice to your life.

It's easy to adopt a positive attitude when your space and body feel energized. This spring give yourself permission to change things up a bit and discover how good it feels.

Top 10 Front Door Check-list for Health and Prosperity

on Tuesday, 13 March 2012. Posted in BSA Feng Shui

The Power of Your Front Door

In feng shui the front door is one of the top four aspects that can impact health and prosperity. With that being said it behooves us to pay attention to what's going on with the front door. Below is a simple check-list to follow to spruce up this very important energy catcher for the home.

1. Make sure the front door is proportionate in size to the structure.
2. Hinges, locks, doorknobs and knockers should all be fully functional without any hindrances. The front door represents the mouth and temporomandibular joint in the human body so any infractions to this area can show up as health challenges here.
3. Go ahead and hang a decorative wreath or family crest on the door. It will not only look attractive but draw beneficial energy towards your entrance.
4. Mount sconce lighting on either side of the front door. This will effectively draw energy towards the entrance to navigate into the structure.
5. Think a wooden door as oppose to a glass door. The very structure of wood elicits a secure and powerful feeling.
6. Create a curving pathway leading up to the front door. This will allow energy to meander quietly to grace the structure.
7. Hang a chime or flag no closer than 6 feet to the door to attract beneficial energy to the structure. It also looks and sounds appealing.
8. Work with a good facing direction for the structure and the occupants. This is based on compass school theories of the bazhai method.
9. Place some healthy vegetation around the front entrance area. Make sure this vegetation is year round friendly.
10. Work with the proper elements according to the facing direction and five element theory.

So there you have it. The top ten front door tips for health and prosperity. Here's to a better looking front door!

Recipes for Feng Shui Kitchen Success

on Wednesday, 08 February 2012. Posted in BSA Feng Shui

Orcas - San Juan Islands 2011

The kitchen tends to be a focal point where family and friends gather. Ever wonder why? Simple, the kitchen is the stomach and the stomach likes to be fed. The kitchen also represents the family's wealth, health and prosperity so it should be treated with utmost reverence.

There are many simple things you can do to create a successful feng shui kitchen. But before doing anything make sure you clear out any clutter. Yes, that means the refrigerator, pantry, cabinets and drawers. Get rid of any broken utensils, pots, dishes, tupperware and food that is no longer identifiable.

Design & More:

1. Incorporate as many natural elements as possible. Real wood, granite, slate and bamboo are just a few examples.

2. Make sure there is healthy symbolism depicted in artwork, plaques or bowls. Fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs speak volumes when it comes to healthy imagery.

3. The stove/cook-top should be positioned so the chef has command of the space.

4. During the design process avoid placing sink and refrigeration along side the cook-top. The water and fire elements will clash and upset the delicate balance between these elements.

5. Avoid placing the cook-top in front of a window as it reduces the airiness and openness of the design.

6. Avoid placing too much furniture in this space. Open up the room by moving out pieces you don't absolutely need.

7. Optimize light and color. These are important dynamics when it comes to the development of a healthy kitchen. You should always have plenty of overhead lighting in your cooking and eating areas, and it is best if this is full spectrum lighting.

8. Do a quick meditation before you start to prepare food. There is nothing like good energy being passed into the food for you and family to ingest.

9. Create a sensory experience in the kitchen with soft cushions for chairs, a tablecloth and soothing sounds of either a water fountain in a nearby room or classical music in the background.

10. Remember family in this space by grouping a few photos together in the eastern quadrant of the kitchen. You can also place a recipe box filled with old family cooking secrets and store it in the same direction.

So there you have it. Ten simple feng shui kitchen tips to make your dining experience a peaceful one. Don't forget to give thanks for every meal you make and enjoy with family and friends.

Happy Cooking!

Bathroom Feng Shui

on Thursday, 02 February 2012. Posted in BSA Feng Shui

This is one of the most active rooms in a home and a place where we literally begin and end our day. Now I know many of you are cringing just thinking about this room…And it is a room. There are many things we can do to make this space look and feel like a spa where you can go to melt away the stresses of the day.Below are some simple tips to feng shui your bathroom.

Counter-top:

This is an area where all things end up. And I mean ALL things. This tends to overwhelm the body and place the mind in a state of chaos;the opposite of what this space should do for us. Here are a few simple tips to clear the clutter from surfaces in the bathroom.

1. Purchase some natural baskets from your local home store. Place the baskets beneath the sink cabinet and use them as storage containers. You can store everything from your blow dryer, brushes, make-up, shaving equipment, etc. Basically anything you use in a bathroom can be stored in these baskets.

2. Go through your medicine chest and throw out anything that is expired.

3. Throw out old toothbrushes.

4. Discard expired creams or empty bottles of shampoo.

5. Get rid of old tatter towels or rugs and replace them with a fresh comfortable look.

6. Purchase some pure essential oils and soaps and display them on counter or bathtub.

7. Don’t forget to add some fluffy white towels on towel rack or simply roll them and place them in a basket.

8. Add a few natural soy or palm candles.

Feng Shui:

The application of the feng shui ba-gua to the floor plan will indicate what direction your bathroom (s) are located in. Know that bathrooms have a draining energy, as there is constant flushing of waste water. The key then is to know the directional portent the bathroom (s) reside in and work to incorporate proper imagery, elements and color to activate the life aspiration yet hold back the draining aspect.

Bathroom Directions:

East or Southeast: Think lots of wood energy here to assist the portent yet hold back the draining water. Plants and green colors will do the trick.

South – Southwest or Northeast: Get the earth going here. You can use fire colors, earth colors and think lots of tile or granite. This will work a sheng cycle with direction yet dam the water of the bathroom.

Center of structure: This is the most unfavorable area for  waste water. Add as much earth element as possible to a  bathroom or even a laundry room located here.

West or Northwest: Add wood. The direction is naturally fueling the water energy of the bathroom by adding wood elements you will effectively drain all that water.

Repair all leaks in a bathroom and make sure your toilet and sink fixtures are in good working order and luxurious looking. Following these simple guidelines and you will create a healthier and attractive looking bathroom. Every time you enter this room you will feel great!

  • Recharge your body with a healthy breakfast and 8 ounce glass of water.
  • Play some soothing music on your way to the office.

Healthy Office:

  • Make sure your desk is made of natural materials. All wood is best.
  • Position your desk in command to the entrance with a solid wall backing for you.
  • Have a few plants in the office to purify the air and absorb EMF's.

  • Have sufficient filing systems.
  • Add a real water feature of either a water fountain or fish bowl.

Great Feng Shui Tips For Your Family Room

on Monday, 23 January 2012. Posted in BSA Feng Shui

The family room can be one of the most active or yang rooms within your home. It's a room used to enjoy interacting with family and friends, so why not make sure this room feels great! Here are a few tips to get your family room in tip-top feng shui shape.

1. Avoid placing seating under sloping ceilings or floating in the room.

2. Incorporate a variety of lighting source for different activities. Make sure you stick with incandescent lighting, natural or full spectrum.

3. Design with natural materials. It's healthier, feels great and evokes sacred geometric lines.

4. Encase electronics in cabinet or armoire. Having these objects as your focal point is not appealing.

5. Screen off any play or work areas that may be shared with this room. This can be done with a decorative screen or floor standing plant.

6. Choose color appropriate to direction, as this will evoke harmony and balance within the space and invite all to sit and relax.

7. Keep exposed bookshelves orderly.

8. Avoid placing towering furniture along side seating areas.

9. Incorporate drapery for warmth and privacy especially during evening hours.

10. Bring in nature's elements such as plants, flowers, seashells and stones.

The next time you gather in your family room you will feel the difference and so will your family and friends.

Enjoy!

Clear Your Body and Space

on Thursday, 05 January 2012. Posted in BSA Feng Shui

Butchart Gardens ~ Victoria, BC August 2011

This is the perfect time of year to cleanse your body and space of stagnant energy, and today (yin wood ox day), is the perfect day to start the process. Since the law of resonance states: Two energy vibrations will come together and emit a third vibration, then it behooves us to strengthen the vibration of our body and space so the resulting vibration is very high, or in other words healthy. Below are some simple steps to start the clearing process.

Body & Space Clearing:

1. Remove unwanted or broken items from your home. Begin in rooms that you spend most of your time in such as the bedroom or home office. Consider rearranging furnishings once you have de-cluttered. You will be amazed how a space can be transformed by moving a few items around.

2. Gather the following items and place on a table or tray for your clearing process: Candles, incense, bell or chime, flowers, stones, seeds, essential oils and anything else that has deep meaning to you.

3. Take a few moments to become still and quiet the mind. Allow your higher self to take the lead here. Call upon any guardians to guide your spirit. See the breath travel through your blood vessels and awaken each cell in your body. Feel a sense of weightlessness in the physical body as if you can float.

4. Take your sound element of either a bell, chime, drum, etc. and walk through your home allowing the sound to resonate throughout the space. Feel the sound penetrate through your body as well noticing every cell in your body awaken with a humming sensation.

5. Take the incense or a sage stick and walk through the space allowing the smoke to waft. As you walk through the home take time to reflect and allow the incense or herb to surround your body. Let the wafting smoke cleanse your outer body.

6. Take pure water infused with essential oils and either flick it or spray it throughout the space. Now wash your hands and feet in this water. Take a fresh glass of water and drink it slowly. As you drink the water see it fill your body with a bright golden light of energy bathing every muscle, tendon, bone, organ and cell of your body.

7. Come to the center of your space and sit in a meditative position (easy pose - sukasana) with legs crossed. Light a candle and then allow the back of your hands to rest upon your knees while you join your index finger and thumb in gyan mudra. This connects self to higher consciousness or Universal Being. Begin to focus on your breath drawing the prana in through your nose and allowing it to fill your lungs and release through back of throat and out through nose again. With each breath feel the physical body disappear, sense a level of weightlessness and move towards the spirit body. Allow the heart to open and see a green golden light move out from the heart center (anahata) and enfold your entire body. Repeat to yourself, "All is well. I am centered in my being." When the time feels right move away from spirit body and engage in the physical self. Open your eyes, blow out the candle and give thanks for all you have.

8. For the next 3 days spray your home with pure essential oils and eat a cleansing diet of fresh vegetables, fruits and plenty of fresh pure water. See your body and space cleansed and ready to accept all that is yours.

Simple Steps to Re-Engerize Your Space & Body

on Thursday, 12 January 2012. Posted in BSA Feng Shui

Energize Your Space & Body

One of the biggest culprits to low energy is indoor air pollution. Many features in home decor contain volatile organic compounds (VOC), formed by petrochemical products. For example, carpets alone can emit hundreds of carcinogens into the air and theses chemicals can release for up to 5 years. Everything from upholstery, window treatment, bedding, paint, flooring and the list goes on can contain chemicals. This is in addition to the insulation, glues, adhesives and other materials used during the building process.

When you are constantly bombarded by these chemicals from your living and working space it will lower your resistance and leave you feeling lethargic. So what can you do? Follow these simple steps and discover how your space and body can feel more energetic.

Simple Steps to Re-energize Your Space & Body

1. Add a few healthy plants around your home. Plants have the capacity to absorb toxic chemicals and reduce indoor air pollution levels.

2. Place a salt lamp or salt candle in several rooms of your home. The chemical reaction between the sodium and chloride ion when the lamp is turned on will naturally purify the air.

3. The next time you purchase bedding, drapery or other design features look for natural fibers such as organic cotton, sisal or coir to name a few.

4. Keep your windows open. Fresh air is always beneficial to lower the percentage of chemicals in the space.

5. Get a HEPA-filter system. They are very inexpensive, under $50, and they do wonders for reducing the amount of pollutants in the air.

7. Use low VOC or no VOC organic paints. These are easy to find in any hardware store.

6. Practice deep breathing techniques known as pranayama in yoga. These breathing exercises will increase lung capacity and as a result oxygenate the blood better. The more oxygen circulating through your system the better you will feel. A simple pranayama technique is 3 part dirgra breath. Simply sit upright with spine elongated and begin to breathe through the nose deeply. On each inhale fill your belly up with the breath. On each exhale expel all the air out of the belly through your nose. Repeat this deep belly breathing for 5 breaths. On the next inhale, fill the belly up with the breath and then take a little extra breath and let that air expand into the rib cage. On the exhale, let the air release first from the rib cage and then from the belly. Continue with this format but with each new breath fill the lungs more, mid chest then to upper chest. Repeat this cycle 10 times. The more you practice pranayama the more you will oxygenate your system and the more energetic you will feel.

Here's to having more energy!

10 Feng Shui Tips For Small Spaces

on Tuesday, 25 October 2011. Posted in BSA Feng Shui

The first reaction to a small space generally sends us into the “triple D’s,” or what I would like to call the Downward, Despair, and Doldrums. The simple truth is small spaces allow us to be closer to energy, and from a feng shui perspective, that’s golden. Just because the space is small doesn’t mean we can’t balance it. Square footage has no bearing on creating a harmonious and healthy living environment. So for all of you out there short on square footage have some fun following these 10 simple feng shui tips.

1. If you live in an apartment building, determine what directional position your apartment falls in the larger building. This will help you with the overall elemental theme. For example, if your apartment sits in the southeast portent of the entire building, then add wood and water elements.

2. Incorporate floor plants, decorative screens, and curtains for faux walls. It will look fabulous and give you much needed definable living areas.

3. Choose a focal point towards which the energy will gravitate. This can be done with interesting artwork, sculptures, or an exotic pillow.

4. Keep windows clean and open for natural sunlight and fresh air. Compliment with flowing window treatment and full spectrum track lighting aimed at walls to free up floor space and create an expansive feeling.

5. Consider removing closet doors and replacing them with curtains. This will soften the energy while giving the illusion of more space.

6. Think less is more when it comes to furnishings and incorporate curved designs. Qi only moves in a sine wave pattern and therefore will be unimpeded.

7. Note the directions within the space from the center point. Then address each direction with the corresponding natural element and symbolic image to catapult the energetic ba-gua. For example, place a ceramic dish with some stones and a metal musical instrument in the west. By doing this, you effectively infuse the pure essence of nature and the joyful sounds of music into the space.

8. Arrange major pieces of furniture in command to capture qi for a sense of comfort and eye appeal.

9. Splurge on tableware and linens. Small luxuries, such as table-top water fountains, go a long way.

10. Have fun and invite some friends over. People actually prefer to socialize in small spaces.

Conscious Being ~ In the Year of 2012

Yang Water Dragon

Hurricane Ridge - Olympic National Park: August 2011

No social transformation happens in the absence of personal tranformation.

~Deepak Chopra

2012: Yang Water Dragon Year:

Unlike the Gregorian calendar, the solar year begins when the sun enters 15 degrees Aquarius. This is the mid-point between the winter solstice and vernal equinox. On February 4th at exactly 6:40pm the new solar year will begin. Welcome to the year of the Yang Water Dragon.

Heavenly Stem - Yang Water:

In the Chinese calendar cycle, the year 2012 shifts to the heavenly stem (pure qi energy) of Yang Water and the earthly branch of Dragon. Since the Dragon falls within the New Moon (1st - 7th day), it represents the planting of seeds for future opportunities.

The heavenly stem of yang water represents possibilities and the basic tenet of life support. The energy of yang water is a pushing forward and since it sits above the Dragon located in the southeast, then it is a pushing forward of creative ideas. These ideas can move into action so you can realize your goals. There is a level of intuition, flexibility and persistence when it comes to managing these goals so take advantage of these qualities.

The water energy represents our collective journey as a nation, as a people, and as individuals. It is a time for reflection and preparation for change. Wrong decisions in the past will come to the forefront so it is a good time for all to re-address these points.

During the first half of the year 2012 (February - July 6th), there will be an urge for mental and spiritual development. It is advised to hold off on racing to pursue new projects. It is better to wait until the second half of the year when the Dragon energy triggers.

The energy of water resides in an area of Brightness so working towards goals is natural; however, in order to be successful you must work from a firm foundation and be clear and concise about your goals. This holds true for the world at large.

The water energy of the heavenly stem for the first half of this year resonates with the chakra Svadhisthana. This chakra regulates sexuality, pleasure, joy, reproduction, and the urinary system. Therefore, these areas can be vulnerable since water sits above earth causing water to be stifled. Practicing yoga with the emphasis on hip openers will help to alleviate the stress between the water and earth element. The idea here is to flow with the rhythmn of life.

The water stem also stimulates the kosha energy body or the pranamayakosha. It regulates the flow of prana or the breath of life throughout the body. When prana is restricted (water over earth) then disease can occur. Engaging in yoga practice can remove these constrictions and open the energy channels.

The combination of the water stem and Dragon earth branch can also stimulate the dosha Kapha. This means there is an inherent energy for meditation and inner focus to achieve balance otherwise you may find yourself sluggish and fall towards respiratory problems.

Empty Branch - Dragon:

The Dragon energy contains a few dynamics. First, it resides on the celestial clock between 7 - 9 am governing wealth accumulation. Its position of southeast coupled with the water heavenly stem of 2012, and hidden Dragon stems of wood and water, point towards wealth. This is attainable as the hidden stems provide root or an anchor for this energy.

Secondly, the Dragon is the 5th sign of the lunar cycle with a fixed element of yang earth in stage 9 storage of qi energy. This is noted by wet climate and that we shall see in 2012. We all should be prudent around water this year as there is a tendency of wet weather conditions. Albeit the earth will do its best to contain this water as it refills its water tables, but it will cause saturation and destabilization.

Third, the Dragon archetypal energy, if balanced, will exude an enthusiastic, creative, confident, noble, pioneering and magnanimous qualities. We will witness this only if there is balance of mind, body and spirit and a move out of our limited ego. If not, we will discover the Dragon's unfortunate characteristics of arrogance, egoism, overbearing and dogmatic approach to things.

Overall:

Collectively we should find there will be plenty of resources available this year that can bring about fortunate blessings. Since the birth chart of 2012 indicates powerful wood source, then there is the potential for friendly assistance so we can reach our potential. However, there will also be underlying stress and pressure felt by many that is attributed to a growing dependence on government. Because of this, leaders will feel as though they alone are the main influencing factor in the world and this is dangerous. The karmic lesson for us all is to become more independent and let government know we have a voice; "We the people."

We as a nation and individually must manage our finances otherwise we will lose our independence even more so and feed the current downward spiral. Because of this, there will be an agressive nature to force things to happen even if the timing isn't right. As a result, it will cause great tension among people and nations. This is coming from the core of man himself and exacerbated by a 6 combination occurrence in the 2012 birth chart that points to aggressive power. The public will feel this tension and therfore it is better to allow things to unfold in due time.

There will be much arguing in families this year and this stems from business/finances. Again, the key is for balance and to let go of ego driven limitations. The lesson here for all is to slow down, smell the roses, experience life and discover true self through meditation practice.

This year many will have the urge to travel as the heavenly trigram Qian takes center position. This travel will involve for many to visit places that have spiritual energy such as Machu Picchu in the Cusco region of Peru. Just keep in mind that all should take caution this year traveling towards the southeast or the northwest as difficulties may arise.

The year of 2012 definitely offers options. The best approach will be to progress as an honest nation with honest citizens who will listen to their neighbors. If we do this we will gain respect globally. This is a transformative year that can lead us to an evolutionary leap of consciousness. Let the inner philosopher emerge!

Personal Impact:

Every person has a unique fingerprint according to their time of birth and location. From that data I can devise a 4 Pillars birth chart and assess personal energetic trends over a lifetime. It is these trends that are impacted by the new year pillars that are cyclic representing generalized energy for the masses. The Yang Water Dragon 2012 stem and branch energy will have a unique impact to your personal birth pillars. For more information or questions on devising your own 4 pillars chart and comparison to the year 2012 email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Grounding Your Body & Space

Grounding Your Body & Space

So many of us this time of year are thrown off balance. The weather is cold (of course depending upon where you live), and the frenetic pace from the holidays has taken its toll. Follow these simple techniques to center and ground your body and space.

1. Remove the holiday decorations. Take your time with this process and make sure you have a designated place for these items. Utilize a labeling system  so next year when it is time to pull the decorations out it will be simple.

2.  Give your space the once over. In other words, take this opportunity to clean your house with natural products and then do a basic space clearing. For example, light an incense stick and let it burn in the main part of your home. Then ring a chime or bell throughout your home to break up any heavy energy. Finish off by spraying some pure essential oils in each room. During the process think about what you would like to achieve for the new year. Even if it is simply to spend more time with family and friends.

3. Place a few stones in a ceramic dish or bowl and place them towards the center of your home. Earth elements have a very grounding effect. The earth element also represents transformation, so perhaps you may think about what needs transforming in your life.

4. Move your diet towards root vegetables. These have a stabilizing quality about them. They are more yin in quality and calming.

5. Begin a meditation routine. Start with 5 minutes of quiet time in the morning and at night. Make sure you turn off any distractions. This is YOU time.

6. Incorporate an exercise routine that moves between yin and yang activities. For example, cardio conditioning moves towards a yang activity whereas yoga or qi gong is a yin activity. Should you choose yoga, then concentrate on standing asanas (poses) like warriors, triangle pose, side angle, goddess, or mountain pose. All of these poses engage the root chakra (muladhara) and offer a strong grounding effect. When performing these poses recite the affirmation, "I am always safe at the center of my being."

These are just a few things you can do to realign your body and space. Start slowly and enjoy the process.

Key Features in Eco-Design

Earth friendly means feng shui friendly. When we design our space to preserve the earth and honor its’ bounty we are creating a very healthy living environment. This is feng shui at its best. The major premise behind feng shui is to create a living environment that nurtures and surrounds its occupants with the sounds, smells, and elements found in mother nature. When we follow these basic guidelines we are in alignment with the earth and the earth is in alignment with us; a match truly made in heaven. Below are some guidelines to follow when building or to simply fine-tune your space.

Utilize renewable energy sources – solar water heater, photovoltaic panels, and wind turbines.
Insulate roof, walls, and floors with natural materials – newspaper, cardboard, flax or hemp.
Use double or triple glazing on windows.
Install low flow faucets & shower heads.
Incorporate air bricks and passive ventilation systems.
Use Energy Star appliances.
Incorporate natural materials.
Where To Put Those Different Materials?

In feng shui there are 5 main elements that represent aspects of nature, qi movement, color frequency, and shapes. Knowing the intricacies of the 5 phase relationships, one can create a nurturing and balanced space. For example, a room with very high ceilings tends to lose qi upward and therefore downward energy is helpful. Water qi provides that perfect downward movement to recapture escaping qi. By bringing in actual water you can capture a little bit of nature from the outside and bring it into the living space. Now, knowing exactly where that water will do best is even better.

Finding water designs in fabrics, color, and furniture is another excellent way to introduce that element into the space. Wavy patterns, flowing designs, and darker colors are all excellent ways to incorporate this element. Knowing the perfect directions that gravitate toward the water element is another great way to capture nature and balance your space.

There are so many ways to utilize natural elements when designing your home for health. Taking the time to start with one room and incorporate feng shui green concepts is a great way to start the transformation process.
